Biology Requirements

Biology

  • Points to be awarded by the number of High School Semesters earning a B or better in *Biology and/or Anatomy & Physiology courses or one semester college (College biology must equate with SWIC’s BIOL 105 or 157&158).
  • Students completing prerequisite courses from a high school not recognized by the State Board of Education or home schooled students may demonstrate competency of the biology requirement by taking a proficiency test. Questions regarding proficiency testing can be addressed by our admissions reviewer, 618-235-2700, ext. 5455.

High school students:

Plan to complete biology before the senior year of high school.

If biology was not completed in high school or was completed beyond time limits:

Plan to complete no later than the fall semester preceding potential program admission.

Requirements MUST be completed by the identified time frames to be considered for admission in programs that have more applicants than seats available. Enrollment in the spring semester or completion of coursework in the senior year of high school is too late for the admission process.

*Biology courses may present on transcripts with names such as: Biology, Advanced Biology, or AP Biology and will be determined by enrollment services when transcripts are evaluated. Courses such as Wildlife Biology or Environmental Biology are examples of Biology courses that do not deal with the human body and therefore will not receive credit for application to the PTA program.
