My name is Dan and I have an idea for an app and product that I believe could save lives.
The idea is this.
A Bluetooth connected wearable device (like a keychain button) that silently triggers a downloadable phone app that stores the user’s location.
Anybody with the phone app who is either nearby with the app or listed as a trusted contact (also with the app) will receive an alert that gives off a distinct loud sound that allows said alerted person to see the users location that is only revealed when they contact the police.
I understand that this might violate privacy concerns and this is something that needs workshopped I’m sure.
The other option is that the location is only sent to trusted contacts if the user confirms they’re in danger, or it could be somehow integrated with the nearby law enforcement.
Here’s what makes this different:
Works offline — stores alert data until network is available
Prioritizes privacy — no constant tracking, no data harvesting
100% donation-based — no subscriptions, no paywall
Built for everyday people — especially women and vulnerable individuals
Ideally this is completely funded by user and public donations which I believe would be doable if the results can speak for themselves by proving the systems effectiveness.
I’m reaching out because I’m looking for a student developer who wants to:
–Be part of building a real MVP from the ground up
–Work on a project with real-world social impact
–Get strong portfolio credit (and possibly co-founder or spotlight mention if it grows)
–Learn Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), location services, and offline data handling
I myself am not a coder or an engineer. I am looking for somebody with the expertise to get this off the ground. I have the technical brief mapped out and available, and I am ready to move forward to the next step. I have a small starter budget; of course, more funds can be raised as needed.
Now I will say this project is not-for-profit as affordability is key. We want this in the hands of everyone who needs it. That is vital. But I understand that everyone needs to make a living, and I do believe money will come as the mission grows.
For now all I can offer is a meaningful project that will be a phenomenal piece on your resume, due credit to everyone involved, and the potential opportunity to save lives and make a real difference.
