A New Era Begins Fall 2027
Southwestern Illinois College is proud to launch its first-ever intercollegiate football program, with the inaugural season kicking off in Fall 2027. Competing as an Independent in NJCAA Division I, the Blue Storm football team represents an exciting new chapter for SWIC Athletics and the college community.
The addition of football reflects SWIC’s commitment to expanding opportunities for student-athletes, enhancing campus life, and strengthening connections throughout the Metro East and Southwestern Illinois.
Building the Future of Blue Storm Football
The foundation for SWIC Football is already taking shape under the leadership of inaugural Head Football Coach Tom Minnick, a nationally recognized coach with more than 30 years of experience building successful community college football programs.
A member of the 2021 NJCAA Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame, Minnick has led multiple programs to national championship appearances while earning a reputation for developing student-athletes both on and off the field.
His vision for SWIC Football extends beyond competition.

SWIC Football will play its home games at The Campus, home of Southwestern Illinois Justice & Workforce Development.
The venue will serve as the home field for Blue Storm Football while creating an exciting destination for students, alumni, families, and the community to gather on game day.

As the only community college in the Metro East offering football, SWIC is creating new opportunities for student-athletes who want to compete at a high level while earning an affordable college education.
