Remote Testing Scheduling and Availability
How do I schedule a remote testing appointment?
Remote testing appointments must be scheduled at least 48 hours (two business days) in advance. Same-day appointments are not available, and availability is limited. Appointments are offered on a first-come, first-served basis, so please plan ahead and contact the Testing Center early to secure your spot.
Remote Testing Appointments can be scheduled online at swic.edu/tca, by phone, 618-222-5551, or in person at the Belleville Testing Center, 1331 Liberal Arts.
What technology do I need for a remote test?
To test remotely, you must have:
- A desktop, laptop, or Chromebook with a working camera and microphone
- A stable internet connection
- The Microsoft Teams (Work or School version) app installed (Download here)
Note: You cannot use an iPad, tablet, or phone for remote testing.
Can I borrow technology if I don’t have what I need?
Yes! The library offers free laptop and hotspot (Kajeet) checkouts for the semester.
Before leaving the library, be sure the laptop has a built-in camera and microphone.
Preparing for your Appointment
Please read and follow these steps before your scheduled testing session:
- Your appointment will be scheduled through MS Teams. You must download the MS Teams app (Work or School version only) before your test. It will not work with the web version.
➤ Download MS Teams
Then, check your audio and video settings:- Mac: Go to System Preferences → Security & Privacy → Accessibility and allow access for MS Teams
- PC: Make sure the camera and microphone have access permissions enabled
- Your proctor can troubleshoot for up to 30 minutes. If issues can’t be resolved, the test may be rescheduled if availability permits. If you need setup help, contact the Testing Center before your appointment.
- Use a desktop or laptop (not an iPad, tablet, or phone).
At the Time of Your Appointment
- Ensure a stable internet connection. When it’s time to test, click the link in your meeting invite. Choose:
➤ “Open Microsoft Teams” or “Open Teams (Work or School)”
✘ Do not click “Continue on this browser.” - Your proctor may call you if there are initial connection issues. Once connected, you’ll be asked to remove your phone from the testing area.
- Note: Cell phones and other electronics are not allowed in the testing area unless approved by your proctor.
- Clear your workspace – you may only have your monitor, mouse, keyboard, blank scratch paper, and a pencil. All other items must be removed.
- Choose a quiet location where you won’t be interrupted during testing.
- Have your photo ID ready – you’ll need to show it to your proctor. You’ll also be asked to scan the room using your webcam to verify your testing environment.
- Keep your audio and video enabled for the entire testing session.
- Do not navigate away from your test screen or open new browsers – doing so may invalidate your test.
- If any testing aids are allowed (e.g., calculator, scratch paper, formula sheet), instructions will be provided in a follow-up email.
