SWIC to feature local professors at a chamber music recital

If you’d like to hear the voices of past and present Southwestern Illinois College Concert Choir members performing together, now’s your chance.

The Choir and alumni will perform Saturday, April 23 at 5 p.m., at the Saint Paul United Church of Christ, 115 W. B St., in Belleville. The event is free and open to the public.

Professor of Music Andy Jensen, DMA, will conduct the performance, with piano accompaniment by Gail Long.

“After a decade teaching at SWIC (and a world-altering pandemic) I’m feeling very nostalgic and reflective,” Jensen said. “This concert is filled with songs our choirs have performed over the past ten years and has brought together over 50 students and alumni for a weekend of friendship and music.”

The concert will include music by composers such as Eric Whitacre, Kim André Arnesen, John Leavitt and Emma Lou Diemer, to name a few.

Talent Statement

“Hello! My name is Jacob Beckett! I’m a producer, DJ, and proud headbanger (Oops, probably should’ve left part that out! Ha ha!)! I’ve been making electronic music for several years, however I decided to go to S.W.I.C as a ridiculously cheap and practical way to start on my bachelor’s degree (although I’m really only getting my bachelor’s degree as a precautionary measure; as in the worst happened and I don’t end up where I want to be; degrees are absolutely useless in my field.) for electronic music composition.

I also like learning new things too, so I have no problem being here whatsoever! This year could not have impacted college freshmen like me any worse than it already has, and I cannot wait to show even more lovely lads what I can do under my moniker Metronoid once this crisis ends! Until then though, enjoy my clip! I figured I may as well introduce to you all how I would approach a set (if someone hires me for a rowdy club, I.E the crowd likes heavier music genres). – Beckett

Songs played: Metronoid – The Juggler Tengraphs – Rippers (VIP)

A Dedication to Stevie Ray Vaughan – Logan Wieter

Talent Statement

“I am a local blues musician. I have always kind of been just a one man band. I’ve been playing guitar for 6 years now. As of August 27, 2020 my favorite blues guitar player, Mr. Stevie Ray Vaughan, has been gone for 30 years. I will never have the chance to meet him and play music with him. I don’t know him, but I feel so connected to him, almost like we were close friends, or even brothers. I dedicate this performance to you Stevie. I and many others miss your presence more and more each day. This world could use you and you’re kind wisdom now more than ever. Rest In Peace my friend!
