SWIC to feature local professors at a chamber music recital

If you’d like to hear the voices of past and present Southwestern Illinois College Concert Choir members performing together, now’s your chance.

The Choir and alumni will perform Saturday, April 23 at 5 p.m., at the Saint Paul United Church of Christ, 115 W. B St., in Belleville. The event is free and open to the public.

Professor of Music Andy Jensen, DMA, will conduct the performance, with piano accompaniment by Gail Long.

“After a decade teaching at SWIC (and a world-altering pandemic) I’m feeling very nostalgic and reflective,” Jensen said. “This concert is filled with songs our choirs have performed over the past ten years and has brought together over 50 students and alumni for a weekend of friendship and music.”

The concert will include music by composers such as Eric Whitacre, Kim André Arnesen, John Leavitt and Emma Lou Diemer, to name a few.

Stand By Me – Jade Bissonnette

Talent Statement:

“I came up with this idea because of my last charcoal drawing. I had a fun time doing it, but I did not like the image I did. So I decided to change that. I took a photo I can look at daily! I have been doing art for 7 years. I love to do new things. Especially painting monochromatics. I just started to practice tattooing as well. I enjoy opening up your own world of beauty, and making it a masterpiece.

let go – Abby Christ

Talent Statement:

“Hi! My name is Abby Christ, I am a second year Running Start student from Belleville East.

After graduation, I plan on transferring to a 4 year university to study Music Therapy. I love the idea of having a career focused on bettering someone’s life while doing something I love. I’ve played music for as long as I can remember and I play many instruments.

In this song, everything you hear was created by me. I love having a song that I can call completely my own, and I’m excited to share it with you! If you enjoyed this song, please find the full version on my YouTube channel!

Thank you so much! Abby <3″
