Meet The Team

Meet the team in career services. Mike Conley. Director of workforce development & career pathways. Mike Conley is the director of Workforce Development and Career Pathways for Southwestern Illinois College. Mike has an extensive background in the private sector, having worked in retail, finance and newspaper for 35 years before turning his full attention to a passion for workforce development in 2020. He was appointed by the Governor in 2024 to the Illinois Workforce Innovation Board, and continues to serve that body as chair of its Apprenticeship Illinois Committee. Through this experience, Mike recognized workforce development as the first domino in a potential chain reaction promoting the values that bind a healthy society; education, hard work, self-discipline, accountability, and empathy. Mike has been married to Sybil for 33 years and they have one surviving adult daughter, Miranda. Fun fact: In addition to the family newspaper, the Conley's own and operate a specialty coffee shop, Press Coffee and Tea, in Trenton. Meet the team in career services. Brooke Taylor. Employment Training Assistant - WIOA. Welcome to Southwestern Illinois College! I have had the privilege of working at the college for the past five years, and am currently the Employment Training Assistant for WIOA services. Educating myself and others is what I find to be extremely rewarding, and where my passion in life lies. I have worked with individuals aged 3 - 73 with ultimate goal of preparing and developing them into productive members that function successfully within today's workforce and community. Meet the team in career services. John Suarez. Career & Employment Specialist. I graduated from Belleville Area College a long time ago and consider myself lucky to once again walk the halls where I was the editor of the school newspaper and working part-time in the bookstore while earning my first college degree. My role as a Career & Employment Specialist keeps me involved with all aspects of the job search journey for our students and clients. I am Certified Professional Resume Writer with five years of previous experience in higher education, which includes the development of what was then known as the Career Ready program used nationwide by DeVry University. The basis of that program was that no matter where you were on the job search scale - form exploring a college major to researching job openings at a specific always something you could do to advance your cause... even if it's just a baby step today. There are many paths up the mountain, and I enjoy the process of helping people discover what might work best for them. I am an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and enjoy cycling, reading, songwriting, and watching my grandchildren grow into the most amazing people.
