Frequently Asked Questions
Who can apply?
The application is open to current and prospective SWIC students, who have obtained a high school diploma (or its equivalent) before the start of the semester that they are applying for.
Are there any grade point or enrollment requirements?
The minimum cumulative GPA is 2.0 on a 4.0 scale with a minimum enrollment of 6 credit hours each semester.
Some scholarships require a higher minimum GPA and/or a minimum enrollment of 12 credit hours.
How many and what kind of scholarships are available?
The Foundation offers more than 300 scholarships and awards ranging from $100 to $6,400 annually.
Scholarships are offered based on a variety of career fields, interests and life circumstances, including returning adult students, recent high school graduates and transfer students.
How many scholarships can I receive?
While you will submit only one application each academic year, it is possible for you to receive more than one Foundation scholarship. However, students receiving federal/state financial aid cannot receive funds greater than their cost of attendance.
Is there a deadline to apply?
Applications received between Dec. 1st and March 1st will be reviewed first for all scholarship opportunities. The next review period for the fall is Aug. 1st. The final review period will be for the spring semester only and begins once fall grades have been submitted.
How are scholarship recipients selected?
SWIC faculty, staff, and community volunteers serve on this committee. Each application is reviewed and scored by a member of the scholarship selection committee. Scores are used to select scholarship recipients, as well as our pool of alternates. Foundation staff will identify the qualified applicants for each scholarship and award scholarships to the applicant with the highest score.
