Computer Information Systems
At Southwestern Illinois College, students can earn an Associate in Applied Science degree in Computer Information Systems with an emphasis in Software Development or Web Development. Students also can earn certificates in Software Development and/or Web Development.
The Software Development program provides students with technical skills and knowledge to handle object-oriented programming requirements in support of the business community. Successful students will use various software development tools to develop platform-independent applications written in one or more object-oriented programming languages. In addition, students will develop data-driven software and browser-enabled applications using client and server-side programming languages and technologies.
The Web Development program provides the technical skills and knowledge required for the design, development, and maintenance of websites and services. Students completing the program may be responsible for all the technical aspects of a website, including performance issues. In addition to web-specific applications, instruction includes commonly used programming.
