Head Coach Warren Thomas

Coach Warren Thomas is entering his seventh season as head volleyball coach with an overall record of 97-104 in NJCAA Region 24 (2012-2017). While in one of the toughest NJCAA Region’s in the country, he has dedicated himself to grow the volleyball program to highly competitive heights.  Prior to his first season (2011yr / 6-28), he developed a training structure and recruiting process to lift SWIC to a 23-14 record finishing 2nd in Conference and 4th in Region (2017.  This is the highest achievement since the 2003-2004 seasons SWIC placed 1st in Conference.

Coach Thomas previous coaching positions have been in the Air Force as men’s and women’s club volleyball teams at various locations worldwide, along with playing internationally for the European Armed Forces Team and participating on German National League teams.  Additionally, he was the varsity head coach for girls volleyball at Alamogordo High School, Alamogordo, New Mexico, where he coached for seven years.

Coach Thomas currently coaches under the Gateway USA Volleyball organization out of St. Louis, MO., H2 Illini club and is USAV CAP (Coaches Accreditation Program) II certified.  He is a graduate from New Mexico State University with a bachelor’s degree in physical education.   Thomas is also retired Air Force, where he was enlisted for 28 years. Volleyball has been a major part of his life, playing and/or coaching for over 40 years.

Assistant Coach Chelsi Hummert

Coach Hummert is entering her third season as the Assistant Volleyball Coach at SWIC.  Coach Hummert is a 2011 Graduate of Freeburg High School.  She was a 4 year varsity starter and member of the Class 2A State Championship team in 2008 and 2009.  She was named the Belleville News Democrat’s Small School Player of the Year in 2009.  She earned All-Conference honors in 2008, 2009, and 2010.  In addition, she earned All-State honors in 2009 and 2010.

Coach Hummert played 7 seasons of club volleyball for Southwest Illinois Volleyball Club.  Her club volleyball career included several National Championship appearances with 5th place finishes in 2008 and 2009.  She earned an All-American accolade in 2010.

Coach Hummert played volleyball at SIUE in 2011 where she appeared in 25 matches as a freshman.  In 2012, she played at SWIC for Coach Warren Thomas.  While at SWIC, she was named to the All-Region team.  She finished out her volleyball career with 2 seasons at Lindenwood University- Belleville.  At Lindenwood, she was named All-Conference and All-American in 2013 and 2014.  She also was a member of the Capital One Academic All-American Team in 2014 for her efforts in the classroom and on the court.  Coach Hummert is a 2015 graduate of Lindenwood University-Belleville with a degree in Elementary Education.  She is currently an 8th Grade Language Arts Teacher and coaches 7th Grade Volleyball at Freeburg Middle School.
