Crime and Fire Log
The DPS maintains a daily CRIME LOG, which records all criminal incidents and alleged criminal incidents reported to the Department of Public Safety, except when disclosure of such information is prohibited by law or such disclosure would jeopardize the confidentiality of the victim. Information may be temporarily withheld if there is a clear and convincing evidence that release of such information would: (a) jeopardize an ongoing criminal investigation or the safety of an individual; (b) cause a suspect to flee or evade detection; or (c) result in the destruction of evidence. Information may be disclosed once the adverse effect is no longer likely to occur. Standard notation on the log includes the nature, date, time and general location of each crime, and the disposition of the complaint, if known.
The crime log also records additional geographic locations beyond just those incidents occurring on campus, in or on non-campus buildings or public property within the campus or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus. Reports of criminal incidents of alleged criminal incidents that occur within the patrol jurisdiction of the DPS are also included in the crime log.
The DPS maintains a record of any fire that occurs in an on-campus student housing facility. SWIC does maintain on-campus student housing through the Athletic Program on the Belleville Campus only. The FIRE LOG is combined with our institutions CRIME LOG.
