You will receive a financial aid offer after you have met 3 requirements.

  1. Your financial aid file must be complete.
  2. Your classes must be financial aid eligible.
  3. You must meet all financial aid eligibility requirements.

You will receive notification of your offer through your SWIC student email. First-time students will receive a letter at their home address, in addition to an email. Your financial aid offer email/letter will direct you to your eSTORM account where you can access information about your specific financial aid offer.

Cost of Attendance

The U.S. Department of Education calculates your EFC from the information you submitted on your FAFSA. The difference between the cost of going to college and your expected family contribution is your financial need. Financial Need is determined by this formula:

Cost of Attendance – Expected Family Contribution (EFC) = Financial Need

The Cost of Attendance at Southwestern Illinois College for a full-time student during the nine-month school year is determined by the costs below. You will not be billed this amount by the college. This figure is used to determine your eligibility for financial aid.

For the 2023-24 academic year, direct and indirect costs for dependent and independent students are estimated as follows for a full-time status:

  1. The budgets provided above are estimates based on 15 credit hours per semester, 30 total credit hours for the Fall and Spring semesters. Budgets are reduced if enrollment is part-time or less than half-time. Actual tuition and fee costs are calculated on the student’s enrolled credit hours each semester.
  2. Direct costs incurred through Southwestern Illinois College include tuition, fees, and select books and supplies*.
  3. Books, supplies, and course fees will vary based on the specific courses that students are taking. Students should consult the Class Schedule and billing statements found in eSTORM for specific costs.
  4. Students with aviation fees that exceed the standard fee amount are eligible for a budget increase.
  5. The student’s cost of attendance budget is the maximum financial aid assistance a student can receive. Financial aid includes grants, loans, work-study, scholarships, and tuition waivers. Students are notified of their financial aid eligibility through their SWIC student e-mail.

SAP (SATISFACTORY ACADEMIC PROGRESS)

Three Academic Requirements

  1. Maintain a cumulative 2.0 GPA
  2. Complete at least 67 percent of all attempted credit hours
  3. Complete the program of study within 150 percent of the timeframe allotted for your particular program of study

REPEAT/REMEDIAL

  • Students receiving aid may repeat a course once after receiving a passing grade. If a student decides to repeat a course with a passing grade for a second time, the student is responsible for payment.
  • Financial aid will pay up to 30 credit hours of remedial courses (course numbers below 100). Students exceeding 30 credit hours are responsible for payment.
